COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
Coaching Philosophy
We will be effective and efficient in every aspect of the game. Defensively, we will defend and rebound. Offensively, we will take and make good shots, without turning the ball over. We don’t want to give the opponent extra possessions. Efficient basketball can be played in any type of game, up-tempo or half court. A good coach and team must be able to adjust to any circumstances during the game. The following are the winning keys to success:
1.Give up 15 or less offensive rebounds.
2.Get 15 or more offensive rebounds.
3.Have 15 or less turnovers.
4.Shoot 70% from the line.
5.Shoot 25 or more free throws.
6.Shoot 40% or higher as a team.
7.Have 15 or more assists as a team.
Academic Phliosophy
We will all create and sustain a successful women’s basketball program through the academic and athletic development of the student-athlete to her highest level. We will also establish an effective public relations campaign within the community. This will be archived through the consistent recruitment of quality student-athletes, a winning style of basketball and the visibility of our staff. These efforts will result in a basketball program contending year-to-year for an NCAA Tournament berth.
Recruiting Philosophy
Recruiting starts at home. We must get in front of as many high school/ Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) coaches as possible. Coaches must know who we are and that we are committed to them. Once we have established ourselves in-state, then we move to the surrounding regions. It is important to be seen at high school and AAU events around the country. It is not the size of the school; it’s the size of the opportunity.
We must continue to build on and expand the winning culture. We will not be afraid to recruit players that are being recruited by other nationally ranked colleges. We have something to offer as well and, in doing this, we must be efficient financially. Coaches need to be confident they are financially supported by the school to go after the best players in the country.
